The Laker Project

The Laker Project

A few years back, with help from The Canada Arts Council, Mike and his brilliant songwriting friend David Francey were granted the rare opportunity to spend two weeks aboard the MV Algoville (now called the Tim S. Dool).  They sailed from Montreal to Thunder Bay and back along the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the majestic inland sea of the Great Lakes.  The experience gave them a lifetime of memories of incredible images, natural beauty, modern infrastructure and many amazing individuals from the world of Great Lakes Shipping.

With some help from The Ontario Arts Council, Mike and David created an album of songs about the adventure, called SEAWAY, which was nominated as best Folk Album by The Canadian Folk Music Awards.  Go to the ALBUM page for info about ordering SEAWAY, to the LINKS page to learn more about multiple Juno Award winner and great guy David Francey, and to see a slide show of images from their trip, check out this video for Mike’s song ‘Eastern Gap‘.
